in West Kent Mensa... |
We started in 2001 with a
few pub evenings and (like Topsy) we just grew!
There's no more space on the index
page to list our previous events, so here's a flavour of time past...

2007
Well, we kicked off the year with eating and drinking, including a
delicious lunch at West Kent College's 'Wealden' Restaurant (twice) and a
winter warmer at the Spice Cottage at East Peckham. Ten pin bowling in
February and a quiz in March livened the year up followed by a visit to
Brogdale, home of the National Fruit Collections. April included a visit
to Kent Wildlife Trust's Jeffery Harrison Visitor Centre (Nature Reserve)
near Sevenoaks.

2006
We beat off the winter
blues with an Indian curry meal at Lazzats, enjoyed games evening, films,
nature reserve visit, barbie & swim, a walking treasure hunt, visit to
the 'Eagles nest' at Eynsford, Teapot island and a lot of eating places,
plus theatre, opera and comedy shows. we do get around..!
See pictures of our trip to Brugge, Belgium!

2005
Enjoyed an excellent in-house quiz, in January and heard about GMOs
(genetically modified organisms), went to the movies and eat and drank in
various places, visited a wildfowl reserve (Where else could you see a
grass snake and a heron and then learn how to tickle an orchid?). We
also visited Rouen, meeting up with Mensa Normandie (photos), went bowling and
organised and took part in a intra-county quiz as well as a walking
treasure hunt and various quizzes and theatre visits.

2004
Heard a fascinating update on 'Spiral Dynamics' from fellow Mensan
Rosemary Wilkie (See October 2003 Mensa Magazine for more information),
took part (but did not win!) the Nizels quiz, enjoyed a wine tasting
competition and ate and drank around the area, especially at the NT Ightham
Mote restaurant. Went to France as usual, but joined up with Mensa
Flandres-Artois in the spirit of the 100th anniversary of the Entente
Cordiale Photos

2003
Ran a spectacularly successful SE Region Open Day on 11 October attracting
Mensans from all over the region. (Sorry not to be more modest about it, but
"we done good"!)
Took part in the Mensa national Chocfest (Oh! that was so hard!), won a quiz at Nizels, saw Richard II at the Globe, toured Shepherd Neame brewery
(included samples!), visited the Imperial War Museum, ate and drank at various
choice locations. In October, local historian Bob Ogley spoke to us about Kent
and its history. We visited Le Touquet in November with a fabulous meal at the
famous 'Chez Pérard' seafood restaurant and rounded the year off with a
Christmas meal in Pembury. |
2002
Tour of the local BBC SE studios (fabulous!), an excellent Murder Mystery evening,
A Midsummer's Night Dream
at theGlobe in London and found out about the
impression our clothes are giving other people(!) plus the usual eating &
drinking. |
In order to
make life simpler, we have decided to put the main monthly event
on the 22nd of each month. This
means that we have a variety of days and times, so that anybody
with a weekly commitment on a particular day doesnt get
left out. We do slot other things in between, so watch this web
site! |
